SILICON VALLEY 1500 - RACE TO CUB SCOUTING
The “Race to Cub Scouting” will again be our theme for the council-wide School Night for Scouting this fall, the Council Membership Committee has announced. This major recruiting effort is focused on inviting more families to participate in the Cub Scout program and builds on our successful event last year.
On September 22-26, 2008, all Cub Scout-aged boys (grades 1 through 5) and their parents will be invited to a School Night for Cub Scouting at the schools they regularly attend. Volunteers will be available at all 270 public and private schools in the council to make it possible for more boys to become Cub Scouts.
The efforts of all volunteers throughout the Council, including Troop and Crew leaders, will be needed to assure the success of this exciting new way of recruiting Cub Scouts. Staffing of school locations is being coordinated by our District Membership teams. The Council is preparing flyers, yard signs, and public service announcements to publicize the event. District and Pack leaders will be working with schools and arranging for publicity and classroom visits during the week of September 20th to bring out the boys and their parents.
Multiple training sessions will be held from July to September for all school-site recruiting coordinators. Our goal is for 1500 new Cub Scouts this fall. Let’s bring home the checkered flag!
