Basic Council Facts and History of Territory Covered

Name:  Santa Clara County Council, Boy Scouts of America, Incorporated.

Council Number:  #055

IIncorporated:  1923

Organized:  August 20, 1920 as the San Jose "First Class Council"

Renamed:  Santa Clara County Council in 1922 to cover the entire county

Area expanded to include San Benito County (1924) and named changed to include the new area

Area expanded to include Monterey and Santa Cruz County (1924)and name again rechanged

Area reduced to just Santa Clara County Council (1933) and name changed back to current name

Palo ALto, Los Altos, Mountain View and Stanford University applied for a separate charter (1940) but our name remained Santa Clara County Council

Current territory:  All of Santa Clara County except Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and Stanford. 

There are four geographical administrative regions within the Boy Scoutsand we are in the Western Region.

Within the Region, there are six administrative areas and we are in Area 3.
