The Order of the Arrow would like to continue closer and stronger ties to the units of our Council. To accomplish this, we will increase communications between the Lodge and individual units. This is accomplished by having a youth, adult, or both from each unit to act as the OA Unit Representative to their own unit. This gives the Lodge a person to contact in each unit on Lodge, Council, chapter, or district events and activities.

Since these representatives will only be required to contact OA members from their own unit, they would already know who they are calling. We are not requiring these representatives to go to any more meetings or events. The extent of their duties would be to call OA members of the unit about once a month. If you are interested in being an OA Unit Representative for your unit, or simply have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

How you can become an OA Unit Representative!

The Order of the Arrow Troop/Varsity Team Representative has been approved as a youth leadership position in your troop/team. This Scout/Varsity Scout serves as a youth liaison between the troop/team and the Lodge. In his troop/team, the representative serves as a communications and program link to the Arrowmen and adult leaders and Scouts/Varsity Scouts who are not OA members. He does this in a fashion that strengthens the mission of the Lodge and purpose of the Order. By setting a good example, he enhances the image of the Order as a service arm to his troop/team.

The troop/team representative, just to name a few:

  • Must be under 18 years of age
  • Must be an OA member in good standing
  • Is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader/Varsity Team Captain with the Scoutmaster's/Varsity Scout Coach approval
  • Serves as a communication link between the Lodge or chapter and the troop/team
  • Encourages year-round and resident camping in the troop
  • Encourages Arrowmen to assume leadership positions in the troop/team
  • Encourages Arrowmen in the troop/team to be active participants in Lodge and chapter activities and to seal their membership in the Order by becoming Brotherhood members
  • Lives by the Scout Oath, Scout Law, and OA Obligation

This role will increase the opportunities for youth Arrowmen to stay active in the OA and to continue providing leadership and service in their troops/teams. Scouts may use this new position to meet the leadership requirements for the Star, Life, or Eagle ranks.

The OA Troop/Team Representative has its part in Miwok Lodge through the OA Unit Representative Committee. Each and every representative is a member of the committee and will be contacted by the OA Unit Representative Committee Chairman. If you are looking for some other way to participate in the Lodge and/or complete your rank leadership in your unit, speak to your Scoutmaster or Varsity Team Captain. We look forward to meeting you.
